Rotary Club of Church Stretton

The Church Stretton Rotary Club has been in existence for over 50 years and is part of a world fellowship of business and professional people united in the ideal of vocational, community and international service.
Rotary has 1.2 million members in 32,400 clubs in over 160 countries.

We would like to increase awareness and understanding of Rotary in the local community

   Briefly

  • We meet for an evening meal on a Wednesday at the Longmynd Hotel, but engagement in Rotary organised activities is more important than dining.

  •  Most weeks the meal is followed by a guest Speaker. Over the past few months speakers have included the Governor of Shrewsbury Prison, the former head of English Heritage, a nurse who served in the military hospital in Afghanistan and the founder of the Made in Shrewsbury web-site.

  •  We work in the community,  For example we train local school leavers in interview techniques, we distribute illustrated Dictionaries for primary school leavers, organise Carols in the Square on Christmas Eve and arrange a holiday for those who may not otherwise get away.

  • We raise funds for local charities and organisations such as Air Ambulance, Hope House, Severn Hospice, and the local Guide and Scout groups, etc

  • Internationally, Rotary along with the Bill Gates Foundation, is well on the way to eradicating polio by immunisation programmes in the countries where the disease is still endemic. It is also at the forefront of relief work after natural disasters such as Haiti and the floods in Pakistan by providing emergency shelter and water supplies.

  • We hold social events such as an annual  barbecue, skittles evening and musical entertainment.

If you would like more information, come to one of our meetings, have a meal and meet some Rotarians, you would be welcomed by a Rotarian who will look after you for the evening. There will be no pressure to join Rotary, just an exchange of information.
The cost of the meal is £15 but you must let us know in advance that you are coming. If you decide to come, please phone Len Bolton on 01694 724579

We hope that after coming to a meeting you will be inspired to become a Rotarian yourself!
